What is HouseHealth?
HouseHealth is an online Survey that you do yourself in the comfort of your own home and in your own time. It is not an EPC survey and does not provide you with an official EPC report. It provides you with a more detailed report on the state of your property. It gives you heat loss, air exchange and air quality for the whole house as well as each individual room. Where a standard EPC gives you one figure for the whole house and uses averages across the year, HouseHealth calculates it for the whole house but also room by room and gives it for every month of the year. Not just one average measurement for the year.
This detail allows lower level and more pertinent recommendations to be given for different times of the year allowing for more balanced and practical recommendations. HouseHealth also takes into account living and occupancy conditions that also leads to recommendations that target saving you money and decreased health risks and issues for you and your family.
What is an EPC rating - Energy Performance Certificate?
If you sell your home or want to know the Energy rating you need an EPC. Whatever you think of the current EPC certificate and how useful or how accurate it is, it is still the official method. In order to obtain an official EPC rating and certificate a certified surveyor has to visit your home and complete a survey whilst making a whole bunch of assumptions. They then input their findings into a piece of software that makes another bunch of assumptions and then it provides an EPC rating along with some very high level recommendations as to cost savings that usually give a payback of 7+ years or even more. It's practical usefulness and the benefits of its recommendations are open to debate and discussion. The standard EPC has its drawbacks and criticisms which we don't need or want to go into here.
